Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen (Ephesians 3:20, ESV).
Have you ever had an idea, or a plan you’re going to follow and then all of a sudden, God shows you a different way? I can think of plenty of examples, but as I approach the 13th anniversary of my time working at KORT Physical Therapy, I think that’s a perfect one to share.
If you’ve been here a long time you might have heard this story previously, but it’s worth sharing again. As a physical therapy student at the University of Kentucky one of the most fun and exciting days on the calendar is when we show up to select our clinical sites.
I walked away from our last “Decision Day” feeling very excited! I would be completing my final clinical rotation at a sports medicine location in the Indianapolis area. This clinical rotation would provide an opportunity to work directly with high level athletes prior to graduation, and I was excited as this was the path I felt confident I wanted to follow!
But God.
After receiving a phone call from my clinical educators informing me my clinical had been canceled, I found myself at square one. With few options remaining, I had to pivot and figure out what to do next. Emails, phone calls, and several conversations later, I was placed at KORT in Nicholasville to finish my formal physical therapy education just weeks before graduation.
What has taken place since that time has been nothing short of God helping me understand that all too often, we box ourselves into one plan, one path, and one idea. When in reality, if we open our hearts, and ask Him to be Lord of our lives, He will lead us into spaces that are beyond what we could even imagine. Ephesians 3:20 points us to this truth:
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
I remember feeling such great disappointment when my clinical rotation was canceled last minute. And while those emotions are reasonable, fair, and understandable, I can look back now and recognize that God had more in store for me than I ever thought possible.
This September will mark 13 years at KORT.
This past July was nine years since I bought my first home.
January will mark my third beach trip with a group of ladies that have become like family.
September will be nine years since I truly began to walk in relationship with Jesus.
What started out as a clinical rotation being canceled is now something I recognize as the sovereignty of God. He knows what we need. He has a plan for our lives. He loves us beyond anything we can imagine.
Be encouraged today friends; if things aren’t working out as you had hoped, lean into the Lord and be reminded of Ephesians 3:20 that He will do far more than we could ever ask, or think.
