The Gospel of John (any version).
My favorite part of going to the beach is getting up early, and walking along the beach as the sun rises. The quiet, early, first moments of the day always seem to hold a little bit of everything.
An amazing, beautiful sky just before sunrise. A gray, cloudy sky with rolling clouds and crashing waves. Calm, quiet skies with the sun popping in and out through the clouds. If you were to scroll through my photos, you’d find it all.
One morning, as I sat pondering the beauty of the beach, and the vastness of the Lord, my mind was drawn to the statement He Is.
He is in the days filled with sunshine and beautiful skies. He is in the stormy seasons of our lives. He is in the calm, quiet moments of our day. He is in the chaotic, complex emotions of our hearts. He is in the moments of uncertainty and fear. He is with us in our sorrow. He is with us in our joy.
Not only is God with us in all our moments, days, weeks, and seasons of life–HE IS.
He is the sunshine and beautiful skies. He knows our stormy seasons. He is the calm, and quiet. He is our chaotic, complex emotions. He knows uncertainty and fear. He knows our sorrows. He is our joy.
When I give my heart room to process the truth that Jesus IS, I can breathe a sigh of relief. A sense of peace that passes understanding washes over me. Joy is imminent and ever-present. Though there are often life circumstances that bring challenges outside of my control, there is freedom in the truths found in the Gospel of John.
I want to encourage you today to carve out some time to read through the Gospel of John. It may take you several days, maybe even several weeks, to get through all of the chapters. As you read, look for and highlight these seven well-known I Am statements.
I am the bread of life (John 6:35). I am the light of the world (John 8:12). I am the door of the sheep (John 10:7,9). I am the resurrection and the life (John 11:25). I am the good shepherd (John 10:11, 14). I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). I am the true vine (John 15:1,5).
If we cling to these truths we can learn to lean into and appreciate every moment as long as we recognize that He Is.
