All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV).
Coffee cup Christianity. One of the pastors I follow uses this reference to describe how our society uses Scripture to sell merchandise, rather than accurately reflect the Word of God.
Philippians 4:13.
Jeremiah 29:11.
Joshua 1:9.
Insert just about any popular Scripture verse. I occasionally sip coffee from a mug that has Philippians 4:13 on it. And while I love a good coffee mug, I can relate to the sentiment.
We carry Scripture on our mugs, and wear it on our t-shirts and ball caps, but are we reflecting God's truth in our lives?
Often, we read Scripture in snippets. When we choose to read it this way, we miss so much. With so many things in life we are master manipulators. Whether we intend to our not, we begin to create our own truth.
God has a good plan for our lives, but are we seeking Him with our whole heart?
We can do all things through Christ, but what about the hard things?
Be strong and courageous, but are we willing to do this when in a wilderness season?
I used to be very guilty of this, too. I still am, at times, I'm sure. Read as a story, rather than in snippets, I began to understand the Word in a totally different way. 2 Timothy 3:16 says:
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."
We could read the Bible daily for the rest of our life and still not glean all the wisdom contained within, but as we immerse ourselves in God's Word, He will begin to create a new heart within us.
When we open our Bibles this week, may we approach it a little differently than we have before. When we posture ourselves to receive, and consume God's story, our hearts will be transformed, and the life we live will slowly begin to look more and more like Christ.
